About the Atheist Calendar

The Atheist Calendar was conceived and created by Dave Kopilak from Portland, Oregon. The calendar is owned, published, and distributed by Above Us Only Sky, LLC.

Every effort was made to ensure that the individuals that appear throughout the calendar were, in fact, atheists.

Wikipedia has defined atheism as follows: "Atheism, in its broadest sense, is the absence of belief in the existence of deities. A narrower definition includes only those who believe that deities do not exist, and excludes those who hold no position on the question, such as agnostics and other non-theists."

For purposes of the calendar, we adopted the narrower definition, and therefore excluded individuals who we believed were merely agnostic. We also limited the calendar to deceased atheists.

Please contact us if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, or if you believe we have incorrectly labeled someone an atheist, or if you know of a deceased atheist who is not included in the calendar. We will review all comments, and make all appropriate corrections and additions to the 2009 calendar.
